Sports Investing - Portfolio Management

A Quick Review of Sports Investing

In review, sports investing is the act of investing your money in sports, not gambling.  There are variable differences between these 2 entities.  Sports Investing allows you to build a solid bankroll over time much like a stock market or mutual fund, and propagates strong financial gain over time.  Gambling involves much more risks and promises extremities of positive or negative gain.

Portfolio Management

When investing in sports a detailed portfolio is key to maintaining and building your bankroll.  While operationally, your portfolio is not literally making you money on your sports investment bets, but keeping a detailed log of your bets and per game allocation is critical in the evolution of your bankroll.

Starting Point:

Keeping a portfolio could be as complicated as any other stock market portfolio out there.  But, it does not need to be complicated in scope for sports investing.  Here is an example of an NFL Preseason Portfolio provided by www.NFLChoice.com

As you see, it begins with keeping a detailed log of each bet in a spreadsheet, detailing your wager amounts, wager dates, game, and result.  Make sure you subtract the vig (juice) from your losses, unless it's a SU wager on an underdog (ex: Titans SU +255).  All of these categories of your portfolio are extremely important and here is why:

Wager Amounts:  When you invest in sports, the key is to be consistent with your wagering amounts, placing the same wager on each game, and gradually your bankroll is going to increase.  Once your bankroll has at least doubled, at that point you increase your per game allocation, and this process is continual over time.  Keeping track of your wager amounts ensures that you properly wager your games correctly within the basic rules of sports investing.

Wager Dates: It is important that you have a timeline for all of your wagering and sports investing activity.  Logging the dates of your bets can give you accurate detail of your sports investing progress and track your increase over time.  Time logs are critical for next year's sports investment portfolio as it will give you a detailed guide on your progress and you can get an accurate estimate of how long it will take for you to reach your sports investing goal.

Game Detail: Tracking your game detail is critical in assessing your strengths and weaknesses with certain teams, divisions, conferences, etc.  It's a fact that sports investors often ride winning streaks on certain teams and often shy away from losing streaks with other teams.  Further, over time you want to research your game logs to see the value from previous seasons and game matchups.  Doing a quick search in your spreadsheet can highlight a previous result with a certain team for a game you are considering down the road.  It is imperative that you track game detail so you can profit from particular teams, games, and matchups in the future.

Results:  On Sunday, before noon, place your sports investment bets and go ahead and log them in your spreadsheet in your game detail (ex: Chargers -6.5, Skins +4, Colts -12, Browns SU +325). At the end of the day, make sure to log your winnings or losses for these games:

Chargers -6.5 ; Loss = -1100
Skins +4 ; Win = +1000
Colts -12 ; Loss = -1100
Browns SU +325 ; Win = +3,250

As you see, tracking this result detail will allow you to keep track of your bankroll progress.  In this particular example, your net profit for the day is $2050.  Tracking your short term and long term success is vital to your portfolio management.

Keep Different Sports Separate:

We understand that you may bet on many games across the board on a given day, and were not trying to stop you.  Just make sure to track each particular sports on a different workbook within your spreadsheet.  This way, you can see detailed progress or lack there of in each sport. You may find significant shortcomings in baseball, while excelling in football.  Keeping track of each sport in a separate spreadsheet is vitally important in assessing strengths and weaknesses within your overall portfolio.  Make sure to stay tuned for a detailed look at "Strengths and Weaknesses in Sports Investing" in the following weeks.

Summary:

As you see above, it's extremely valuable that you keep a detailed portfolio of all your wagers across time so you progress positively with your sports investing.  Keep in mind this does take time to do, and you will have to be meticulous in this if you want to be successful in sports investing.  Nothing comes easy, but with a time and work, you can make a killing from sports investing every year.

Don't Have the Time to Invest in Sports?

Another option you have is letting a Professional Sports Investing Company manage all of this for you.  Since this is a somewhat new type of sports betting management, there are few reliable Sports Investing Companies out there.  But, the following sports investing companies have been doing this since 1996.  All you have to do is sign up with one of their packages for a small fee up front.  There are no other fees included or percentages expected.  They maintain portfolios for all of their investment picks and you will have access to investment picks every single day and they have a performance guarantee.

The best thing is, all you have to do is sit back, bet their investment picks they give you, and watch your money grow week after week.  It's simple, easy, and extremely profitable.  Your Sports Investing Advisors will do all of the work for you that you simply do not have time for.

Sports Investments

First off, here at NFL Choice, we are huge sports fans, and we love sports betting for many reasons, most because it's fun and profitable. We also realize there is more to the pursuit of sports betting than just a hobby, we have been making our living at it for over 10 years. We look at sports betting as not just gambling, but more of "sports investing" similar to the stock market, but more profitable plus reliable. Below, are our top reasons why we believe that you can view sports investing favorably as an investment if you approach it responsibly in a disciplined and consistent fashion:

1. Guaranteed Time Frame – When you make a play, you know exactly when the game will start. You don’t have to guess how long your money will be tied up before you reach your return goal on the investment.

2. Accurately Defined Risk – As soon as you make your wager you know exactly what your upside and downside are, and what events are required to realize them. You aren’t subject to unexpected market conditions.

3. Access to Information – You can get way more relevant information about any pro or college team than you can about a publicly traded company, and you can get it in real time as well. You don’t have to wait for reporting periods, and there is no lag time as information is processed and released. If information is money, then investing in sports gives you a clear edge. That transparency provides confidence for responsible sports investors.

4. Liquidity – Up until the moment the game starts you can instantly close or reverse a position for little or no cost. Hedging opportunities often exist within a game to lessen your risk as well.

5. Less Capital Tied Up – When you make a sports wager, your capital is tied up for a short time frame. That means that, with a properly managed bankroll strategy, you can use your capital more often. You can experience leverage on your money without the borrowing exposure required to leverage stock investments.

6. Not a Victim to Basic Trends – In the stock market you can find your bet, even if it is fundamentally sound, deemed unsuccessful because of broader general market impacts – war, changes in government policy, natural disaster – over which you have no control. In sports there is always a winner and a loser regardless of what happens in the game. It won’t always be the outcome you want, but at least you can be certain of an outcome.

7. Diversity – You are not limited to a few choices when it comes to sports investing. In the current internet reality there is an amazing range of sports that you can bet on. That choice allows you to seek the most favorable situations. Think of it in the same way as different sectors you can invest in in the stock market.

8. Immediate Settlement – As soon as a game is completed your bet is settled and the money is available for another wager.

9. Mobility – Thanks to the plethora of online information sources, and the ease and security of online wagering, investing in sports is available no matter where you are or what time it is.

10. Year Round Opportunities – No matter what the time of year there is some sports action that you can handicap and responsibly invest in.

11. Regulated Markets – The scrutiny placed on the leagues, and the attention that can be paid thanks to audio and video technology, means that games are very well policed. Sports investors can be reasonably confident that games are being played without cheating. There is no concern about things like insider trading or stock manipulation which could greatly impact your stock investment.

12. Low Barriers to Entry – A wagering account can be established with as much or as little money as you desire. Incredible information is available at no or low cost. You can reasonably participate in sports investing without ample financial resources.

13. Wide Option of Financial Vehicles – Just as in the financial markets, sports investing portfolios offer a wide range of different instruments which can be tailored to your needs and the risk you are willing to assume. Straight bets, totals, parlays, teasers, halves, quarters, futures – there is an instrument available to capitalize on every situation worthy of attention.

14. Performance Monitoring is Simple
 – There are literally dozens of ways to get real-time information about the games that you have wagered on, and there are even more ways to get information about the game after it ends. Tracking your sports investments accurately is easy.

15. It’s Fun – What’s more entertaining – watching a stock ticker or a football game to track your sports investment.

Week 3 College Football News and Notes

Another week is in the books and many surprises as one would expect from week 3 in college football.  Our College Football Experts once again held stead posting a 4-2 ATS mark with a SU Winner Notre Dame +120.  Our experts are now 62% on the college season heading into week 4.  Start profiting with us today!  click here for college football picks.

Below, we outline some of the highlights from this week's college football games.

1) USC Trounces Ohio State - This game was over from the start.  Tressell proved once more he CANNOT WIN BIG GAMES, PERIOD!  USC looked like a pro team compared to the pitiful Ohio State.  As you can tell by the demeanor of this write -up, we were the fools who thought Ohio State would be a good underdog at +12.5 points for this one.  Wow, were we wrong as the Trojans almost pitched a shutout at 35-3.  Needless to say, Ohio State has proven time and time again they are not worth a second look in big games.

2) Maryland Fights Back - Wow, the Terps looked solid at home beating ranked Cal by a TD.  We were all over the Terps getting 17 points at home and it payed dividends!

3) ECU Still Rolling - As expected, the Pirates hit somewhat of an emotional letdown in week 3 against surprising Tulane.  That was almost a trap game, but the Pirates made a final drive to get the 4 point victory and did not cover.

4) UCLA Loses 59-0 to BYU - Worst loss in this program's history says enough!

5) 3-2 Final Score - Auburn barely escaped Miss. State with a whopping score of 3-2 - we feel sorry for anyone who took the over!

Hope you have enjoyed our week 3 highlights.  If your looking for top college football picks, look no further than www.nflchoice.com.

NFL Week 1 News and Notes

Week 1 is in the books and a solid one at that striking a 5-2 ATS record overall.  Let's review some of the highlights from week 1.

1) Tom Brady - One of the greatest competitors and the best QB in the NFL will be rehabbing this season, instead of throwing to Randy Moss.  Cassell will look to impress this week against the Jets, but by looking at his preseason performances the last 3 years, it's tough to believe he will muster and more than 4 wins the rest of the season.

2) Brett Favre - The gunslinger is back as led his team to a decided victory covering the posted spread.  It seems this Jets team could really do some damage without Tom Brady in the division.

3) The Bills are for Real - Not sure if it was just a sorry Seahawks team, but the Bills actually looked like a viable contender this week.  We will keep an eye on this team as we are sure the oddsmakers are a bit concerned and baffled at this point.

4) Aaron Rodgers - One of the big stories this week was Aaron Rodgers debut with the Packers.  Not only did he throw the ball well, he also proved he can roll out of the pocket and make plays on his own.  I guess being mentored by Favre has payed off!

5) Injuries - We had Brady at the top of the list, but overall we have seen some unfortunate setbacks in week 1.

Brady - Out for Season
Colston - Out 4-6 Weeks
Merriman - Out for Season

All in all, week 1 proved to be an exciting week.  Notable upsets included the Bears over the Colts (Bears +10.5) Panthers over the Chargers (Panthers +8.5), Bills over the Seahawks (Bills +2.5).

Stay tuned for the rest of the season for weekly updates and reports.  Please visit www.nflchoice.com for winning NFL predictions.

Week 2 College Football News and Notes

Well, week 2 is in the books and some of the outcomes have many heads spinning.  We prompted a steady weekend at a 4-2 mark cashing in with the Gators and Texas A&M most notably.  What will week 3 hold?

Summary of Week 2

1) Ohio State - A shocker in Ohio was about to unfold as the Buckeyes almost blew their entire season to Ohio of all schools.  They didn't even come close to covering and almost lost the game outright.  Is this really a team that should be National Title Worthy?

We will see this week versus USC.

2) ACC - The ACC got a nice victory over the SEC last weekend with WFU kicking a last second field goal to down Ole Miss at home.  They still didn't cover, and almost lost alright.  Still, this was a win over the SEC and looks good for the ACC's standings.

However, Maryland was beat at home in a surprising upset to Middle Tennessee as the 14 point favorite.  They were completely dominated from the go and if this conference wants to improve their status can't give up losses like this, especially at home to lower quality opponents.

UNC hits the road to take on Rutgers and would be a huge win for this conference if the Heels could secure a victory on Thursday night.

3) ECU - The Pirates continue to rob opponents of their ranking knocking off a potent WVU offense last Saturday.  Will the streak continue?  The Pirates have the Green Wave on the road and are the slated 13 point favorite.  West Virginia will certainly drop in the ranks.  It will be interesting to see how ECU handle inter conference play this season.

4) SEC - This conference continues to show domination for the most part with Florida trouncing Miami and covering as the 23 point favorite.  SC was downed by rival Vanderbilt who looks to be a surprise this season.

5)  USC - The Trojans had a nice bye week, but will they be prepared for Ohio State in week 3?  The Trojans are currently listed as the 10.5 point favorite as the Bucks have lost big games over the last 2 years at almost every stop.  It will be interesting to see how this game turns out in week 3.
